I’m recovering from the flu and still feeling a bit under the weather hence the short and sweet nature of my last few posts. On a brighter note, I’m happy to report that I recently purchased a new rug for my bedroom! I picked up the robin’s egg blue Madeline Weinrib Mimm print cotton flat weave rug that you see above from ABC Carpet. I plan to layer this on top of a neutral colored natural fiber rug which I’m still searching for. As for the rest of the bedroom, I’ve finally landed on a creative direction. Below is a little inspiration board I put together which gives you a feel for the look I’m trying to achieve. You can click the photo to see the details up close. I’ll keep you posted on my progress!

When Domino featured the home of Ruthie Sommers protégé Krista Ewart in its June/July ’07 issue, I absolutely loved the place. Filled with lots of color, personalized vintage finds and kitschy details like a ceramic Afghan hound sculpture and a collection of stylish vintage fashion illustrations, the place had tons of charm. I was really excited to see her home featured again, this time on a new episode of HGTV’s Small Space Big Style which aired a recently. It was cool to see the place from a different perspective and I really enjoyed hearing about Krista’s approach to designing the space in her own words. SSBS provided a much more comprehensive look at her home than the Domino feature and the cameras captured so many details that just don’t translate in a still photograph. One element which wasn’t really visible in Domino are the two hot pink tufted chairs in her living room. These fun chairs really brightened up the space and I absolutely loved them. I collect seashells whenever I travel to beach destinations so I was also really drawn to Krista’s own collection of seashells which were seen piled up in a giant shell atop a pedestal in her living room as well as grouped together in a shelving nook in her kitchen. I found a clip of the segment on YouTube so in case you missed it, I thought you might like to watch it here. Enjoy!
Ok, I have to say…when a reader alerted me last night to say she saw So Haute mentioned in The Washington Post’s Blog Watch AGAIN, I swear I thought I was being Punk’d. But lo and behold I sauntered over to the Post’s website and almost had to pinch myself when I realized it was true. WOW is all I can say. I am very excited to share the news with you all. Thanks Fay for alerting me and Thanks to Terri at The Washington Post for featuring So Haute on Blog Watch two weeks in a row!! Glad everyone is enjoying So Haute! Hopefully I’ll continue to raise the bar!
Last Thursday Women’s Wear Daily reported that Vera Wang will soon introduce a new line of luxury bed linens. She’ll debut the line exclusively through a new interactive web portal, verawangonweddings.com, which goes live next month. Italian luxury linen purveyor Sferra will manufacture the collection which will include 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and shams as well as a small selection of cashmere items. Wang’s luxury bedding assortment will be comprised of four categories: Elegant Edges, Sophisticated Scallops, White Borders and Divine Dots. To give you a feel for the retail prices, sheets will range from $225 to $295, duvets will range from $525-$2650 and bed blankets will range from $475-2400. Early next year, Wang plans to expand the distribution of the line to approximately 500 specialty retailers. Until then, you’ll have to purchase these lovely luxury linens through Vera Wang on Weddings.

Wang isn’t exactly a newbie to the home market. She launched a tabletop collection in 2002 and since then her home offerings have expanded to include paper goods, a line of mattresses for Serta as well as a line of floral arrangements for FTD. And, through her Simply Vera line for Kohl’s, she has already experimented with designing bedding as well as bath linens.
In the WWD article Wang’s president of licensing, Laura Lee Miller, expressed that the company has solid plans in the works to grow the brand’s presence in the home fashion market. “This sets the stage for our move into the more traditional home fashion categories, like decorative fabrics, furniture, rugs, lighting, paint and wallpaper,” Miller told WWD. “They are all categories that we are working on, and our plan is to enter into home fashion in a cross category in 2009-2010.”
This is very exciting. Vera Wang is certainly an arbiter of good taste so I’m sure her entry into these new categories will prove successful. On that note, here’s a look at some of Wang’s current home fashion offerings and where you can find them:
This Ruthie Sommers designed room is simply gorgeous! I went to visit the Chapman Radcliff Home/Ruthie Sommers website today and discovered this photo along with an “under construction” notice. Looks like her website will soon have brand new look. Can’t wait to see it!
