Totally Loving: Overdyed Rugs

A decorative trend I’m really loving are boldly colored overdyed rugs. Overdying is a technique traditionally  performed on vintage handwoven wool carpets and creating this look involves a process of bleaching, dyeing and washing which produces a carpet that’s richly saturated in color and you can still see the original pattern peeking through. It’s a beautiful way to make an old traditional rug feel modern. I especially love the styles that are worn and threadbare – they have so much character and soul! Plus incorporating these into your decor is a great way to make a bold color statement in a space. An authentic vintage overdyed rug can cost thousands of dollars due to the provenance of the carpets and the labor involved in the hand dyeing process and if you’re looking for an authentic, higher-end style, ABC Carpet and Kush Rugs both have an amazing selection. Luckily for those who don’t want to spend thousands on this look, there are some fabulous sites where you can get the look for less. Below are a few of my favorite picks along with inspiration photos of these beauties placed in some pretty stylish interiors! What do you think of this trend – would you incorporate the look into your own home?

Never have I thought rugs could make a room. Thanks SHS for showing me that the floors are just as important as the walls.
