Since my episode of HGTV’s MY Favorite Place has aired I’ve gotten tons of emails, comments and tweets about some of the items from my apartment that were featured in the episode so I decided to devote a special edition of Ask Nicole to answering your questions. Read on to learn more about some of the sources I used to furnish my space!

Paint Color

Ralph Lauren’s Forde Abbey is one of my favorite shades of gray for interior walls.

Q: Nicole – I saw you for the first time on My Favorite Place. I LOVE everything I saw in your home but especially was drawn to your wall color. Would you consider sharing what color it is?

Linda O’Neill, Reston VA

A: The paint color is a beige-ish gray color called Forde Abbey from Ralph Lauren Paints. You can click here to find it at a store in your area.

Bookcase

Q: Nicole – The segment was wonderful. We felt your space was the most creative. Would you please share with us the resource for the invisible book holder?

Steven Burns

L: The Sapien bookcase from DWR. R: CB2′s Array bookcase.

A: My bookcase was from West Elm and sadly they no longer sell it but lucky for you DWR and CB2 have identical options! The Sapien bookcase from DWR comes in  both white and grey and is available in two heights and the Array bookcase from CB2 is available in a 5 foot tall silver version.

@DressMyRoom (via Twitter)

A: My bedding is from Pottery Barn! It’s the Grand Embroidered Duvet with matching Shams and I chose the embroidery color porcelain blue. You can view it here.

The starburst mirror in my living room. (From West Elm, sadly no longer available.)

Q. Hi Nicole! I am interested in purchasing a Starburst convex mirror like the one you have in your living room. Do you have any suggestions on where to find one on a tight budget?
-Michelle

A. Hi Michelle! I love the look of a starburst mirror. I think it’s one of those timeless decorative elements that will never go out of style. Designed to mimic the rays of light emitted by the sun or a star, these mirrors add an instant touch of glamour and light to any space. You can place one as a stand alone like I did in my living room or cluster them in groups for maximum impact. I scoured the net to find 5 great options for you, all priced under $100, plus a fun DIY version you can make yourself if you’re feeling crafty. And if you have the patience for a hunt, try scouring ebay and your local flea markets for a vintage find. Good luck!

1. Wire Capiz Sunburst Wall Mirror – $84.99, Target | 2. Oversized Sunburst Mirror – $69.99, Target | 3. Suzanne Kassler Sunburst Mirror – $99, Ballard Designs | 4. Oversized Gold Sunburst Mirror – $69.99, Target | 5. Suzanne Kassler Sunburst Mirror – $79, Ballard Designs | 6. Sunburst Mirror DIY by Erica Domesek of PS I Made This via Rue issue #4 pg 58.

Q. Hi Nicole – I recently purchased a Lee Industries English style sofa with rolled arms and a single bench cushion. I have no idea what fabric I should cover it in! I like solids and prints. Do you have any suggestions? -Rudy

A. Right now I’m LOVING the new upholstery fabric collection from DwellStudio! While the range includes everything from basic cotton solids, luxe velvets and richly textured tweeds, it’s the the bold, graphic patterns that really stand out. My favorite is “Vintage Blossoms” shown on the sofa above in Dove. It’s a hip take on a traditional print and and really pops on this classic sofa which, like yours, has a single bench cushion. Aside from the fact that the collection is A-mazing, one of its greatest features is that anyone can purchase these fabrics by the yard directly from DwellStudio.com! (Members of the design trade can source DwellStudio Fabrics wholesale though Robert Allen showrooms.) Good luck!

My tan cowhide layered on top of a sisal rug in my living room.

Q. Hi Nicole, I heart your blog! I love your hide rug and am looking to do something similar a la layering with hide but I live in Canada and wondered where you got your rug. Is it real hide? Can I get something faux that looks just as good for a great bargain? Thanks and keep up the great work…Super inspiring!
- KP, Toronto

A. Hi KP – The web is the absolute best resource to shop, compare prices and find great deals. I purchased my cowhide on eBay for under $200 and yes, it’s real! (It even still has a visible cattle brand on it!) Cowhides are actually very inexpensive so I’d never recommend going faux because you can find the real thing for far less than you probably think. The first place I recommend looking is eBay. Try a search simply using the term “cowhide rug” and you should be able to sort through the results and find one that suits your taste for a great price! Below are three options I found online for you from various retailers including eBay and all are under $300. Hope this helps you get your search off to a great start!

1. Tan Cowhide Rug, eBay. 2. Natural Beige Cowhide Rug, Fine Web Stores. 3. Ombre Hide Rug, Williams-Sonoma Home.

Q. I have been actively searching the internet for affordable, stylish tablescapes for my Thanksgiving table and can find almost NOTHING.  I need help for inspiration and resources for reasonably priced, chic linens, etc.  Any advice? – Erin Barry
